Often, wanting too much for ourselves can block our view of what’s important. Try this easy and fun activity to learn about how too much of a good thing is not good at all.
Start with a jar of clean water. Have each child name a favorite thing they own. With each item, add a few drops of different food color. Then have everyone name some things they want. As more and more food color is added, clean water will become brown and increasingly murky. Discuss how it’s difficult to see things clearly when our minds, hearts, and lives are full of too much “stuff.” Remind everyone that Holy Spirit can help us to keep things in check as we try to keep a clean and grateful heart.
You can also discuss how light works with colors and how colors blend together. How would you be able to clear out the color? Other questions can be discussed based on the age of your kids.
