Here’s a simple activity to teach the importance of presentation.

  1. Take two slices of white bread.
  2. Rub one with coffee ground, some gravy or leftover sauces, and smash one side of it.  Put it on a torn piece of paper towel.
  3. Toast the other nicely and put a little butter on it.  Put it on a pretty plate.

Question:

  • Which would you want for breakfast?
  • Why did you choose that one?
  • How did their appearance affect your decision?
  • How can we present ourselves nicely to make sure we have opportunities to influence others?

Now, take time to make the most appealing piece of toast to give to someone you care about.

  • How do you want to toast it?
  • What should you include?  Butter? Jam? Avacado?
  • What else would you like to take? Milk, water or Orange Juice?
  • Do you think it would be helpful to take a napkin or anything else?
  • Do you want to write a simple note?

Now, take your toast to the person you wanted to give it to and watch their response.

  • Did they smile?  Did they like it?
  • If they liked it, ask what they liked about it.
  • Did your effort in presentation make them happy?
  • Think about how you can make others happy in other ways with how you present thing with them in mind.
