Here’s a simple object lesson on where we get the power to be the light of the world.
- Prepare by taking a light bulb out of a desk lamp. Keep the lamp nearby, plugged in.
- Read Matthew 5:14-16. What are we commanded to do?
- Pass around / show the bulb and challenge each child to light it up in their hands. (Adult supervision required.) Hmmm… why does it not light up?
- Screw the light bulb into the lamp and turn it on. Discuss how we need to be connected to Jesus to be the light in the world, just like the bulb needed to be plugged into the power source.
