– Doing what you have said you would do with a good attitude –
Commitment is following through with what you have said you would do even when it becomes something that you don’t want to do or don’t like anymore. It is hard to keep doing what we don’t like doing but when we “keep our word” we are living in a way that honors God. Many times, we actually learn quite a lot by sticking to what we have said we would do. The truth is, in order for anyone to reach a level of excellence in anything, they will have to be committed to being excellent because everyone reaches a point where things get tough and are not easy or pleasant. But only the people who keep persevering and stay committed will see truly special results.
It is important to make commitments to good things and be careful what we commit to. We should not stay committed to doing things that are unkind, selfish, or wrong. When we realize that we are doing something wrong we need to stop doing those things and start committing to things that make God happy.
“All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.” – Matthew 5:37 NIV
