– Continuing to support and love people even when things are difficult –
It isn’t hard to be friends with the only person who wants to be my friend. It isn’t difficult to follow someone who is helping me to do what I want to do. But what happens when I become popular? How do I treat those people when many people want to be my friend or when I have the opportunity to be a leader?
Loyalty is loving and caring for the people that God has put in your life even when they are not helpful to you anymore. You might think that they can’t help you anymore and maybe it is true. Maybe they are even rude or unkind to you now. But loyalty is being a true friend to people who have been there for you – especially when they are not doing well. God has shown great love and loyalty to us by being a friend even while we were his enemies (Romans 5:8). Everyone needs loyal friends to help them when they are down and many times it is because of true and loyal friends like Jesus that we come out of those low places.
Loyalty takes a mind and spirit of perseverance but we have a wonderful God to help us keep moving towards what matters!
“A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for times of adversity.“ – Proverbs 17:17 (NIV)
